The pine tree and Dirigo star flew over Maine from 1901 until the state legislature adopted the current design in 1909. Many believe that its distinctiveness and simplicity make it a more effective representation of our state, and that's why they are starting to fly it again.
Made right here in Maine, these flags created using a traditional appliqué. This means that the tree and star are cut out and sewn directly onto the flag.
